Still Lame, but moving

Well as usual I am a lazy blogger. Oh well. The good news is that we are all moving to New Mexico! Zoe and I both got jobs in the University of New Mexico Library, she as a metadata librarian, me as a science data librarian. Should be a very nice change. Just can't wait until we are settled again.

Wow, I Am Lame!

Not really. It has been awfully hectic for me lately. Between classes and my work and my son I just seem to always find something else to do than write here. I am taking Data Curation, Systems Analysis, and Data Mining. Each class as a project requirement that always kills me.

I am getting close to done with my work, designing a system to archive Second Life content. It will be a huge load of my mind to start ingesting content.

Wife and Kid are Away for a Month!

Zoe and Lars are visiting family in Taiwan for a month. I wasn't able to go because I have a lot of work to do, and have classes starting soon. I am going to miss them a lot. I really like going to Taiwan too!

Typography is fun!

My job does not rely at all on me being a graphic designer, let alone a talented one. So that makes learning about design principles all the more fun. I have been spending a lot of time reading articles on typography, and trying to apply them to my new personal web site. My old one, I made very quickly, and I hated it 5 minutes after it was done. The new one is pretty nice I think. The design is just about complete. Now I am focusing more on content. Hopefully not too much longer.

Butterflies

We have several gardens in our back yard. I perennial herb garden, an annual garden with annual herbs, lettuce and such and a produce garden with tomatoes, potatoes, squash etc. Last week we found a number of caterpillars on our dill. I knew they were something nice (i.e. not some pest), so we took them in and raised them with our son. It was easy, we found them on dill and fed them dill. They ate all of our dill! After a few days they transformed into pupae, and yesterday the first emerged! Finally we know they are black swallowtails. The second emerged today, and we were fortunate to see everything except the part where he popped out of the cocoon.

My Son's First "Graduation"

Having spent years ridiculing the idea of 4 and 5 year old kids having "graduations" I find my self in the awkward position of having a 4 year old. I hadn't really planned on anything, but today I went to pick him up at daycare and he was grinning from ear to ear. His teacher informed me that he was being moved up to the rainbow room (big kids) and he was beside himself with excitement. He even got his teacher to write a fairly substantial note, which he dictated. He often "writes" us notes. No, he is no genius, he can spell his name, and a few simple words. Mostly he just strings together his favorite letters and draws a picture. However, I think this was so important to him, that he really wanted to make sure it was right. So he got his teacher to take his dictation, and I am sure his teacher helped him with the wording, but we got a fairly long and informative note about the upcoming matriculation.

So. There is not impending graduation ceremony in my future. I couldn'thelp but to be really happy with him though. Maybe, just maybe, I will stop ridiculing the idea of graduations for four year olds.

My First Post

I am going to try hard to write in this once in a while, although I must admit I will probably be lazy. Anyway, we'll use this to keep my friends and family up to date of our lives.
